CLUSTER STRATEGY
The advancement of technology makes tried and tested “Thinking-Outside-The-Box ever more possible. Traditionally data centres have been these monolithic environment unfriendly resource consuming fixed mortars of brick guzzling resources unprecedented. Now imagine if we told you that “spreading” the load into mini clusters could help reduce the waste and clunky-“ness” of existing monolithic datacentres. Well! for 7 years we have road tested running operating SSD drives in some of the harshest set of conditions to high heat environments in hot summer to cold stores in winter and we found they endured the torture with no data loss. Now you are wondering what has SSD drives got to do with data-centre’s beyond being the storage mechanism. But wait what if we reminded you that the resource waste of data centre’s stems largely from the desire to cool off oodles of traditional spinning disks that generated heat like ovens then would you now see the relationship? Because we put the SSD drives to the test it also piqued our minds to do a bit of “Thinking-Outside-The-Box and asking what if questions such as what if we managed to create mini-clusters of data centre’s where instead of being this monolithic behemoth of a resource consumer the clusters could be downgraded to reside in decent specked well-looked after, solar energy backed corner spots of offices or homes with redundant transport links in various locations in a distributed manner. Well that was what we did and do. Welcome to our world of mini-distributed data-centre’s. Oh! there is more to the privacy benefits of being “distributed” than we have mentioned here but we shall leave that to another days blog!
